Supporting Youth Through Nutrition

Celebrating School-Based Health Center Awareness Month
February 11, 2025

March is National Nutrition Month, a time to emphasize the importance of making informed food choices and developing healthy eating habits—especially for the youth and adolescents we serve. As healthcare professionals dedicated to youth wellness, we know that nutrition is a cornerstone of physical, behavioral, and emotional health.

Proper nutrition supports cognitive function, emotional regulation, and overall well-being, helping students stay focused, engaged, and ready to learn. Yet, many youth face challenges such as food insecurity, limited access to nutritious options, and the prevalence of highly processed, low-nutrient foods. Our role as healthcare providers extends beyond medical treatment; we are educators, advocates, and partners in fostering a culture of wellness.

This month, let’s reinforce healthy eating habits in our homes, in our health centers, and continuing to have supportive conversations with youth and their families in our communities:
✅ Encourage balanced meals with whole grains, lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables.
✅ Discuss the impact of nutrition on energy levels, mood, and academic performance.
✅ Connect students with local resources such as food assistance programs and school meal initiatives.
✅ Promote healthy behaviors, recognizing that small changes can make a big difference.

RAHS is committed to comprehensive care that goes beyond the exam room—because when children and adolescents have access to nutritious foods, they are better equipped to thrive in and out of the classroom.

Together, we can empower youth to build lifelong healthy habits!
